Gamma Kappa Chapter at Tuskegee University (Supervised Undergraduate Chapter)
Gamma Kappa Chapter was chartered on the campus of Tuskegee University (Tuskegee, Alabama) on Thursday, April 15, 1948, by 30 visionary Charter Members—Johnnie Blye, Elaine Bradford, Lorrine Brown, Vivian Brown, Doris Cole, Dorothy Dailey, Cleo Daniels, Queen E. Dorn, Georginia Evans, Ophelia Garrett Hill, Willie Geeter, Bessie Hayes, Mary Henry, Lois Holliday, Johnnie Jordon, Tommie Jordon, Rosie Lee Lockett, Annie Lyas, Brunetta Montgomery, Carmen Morrow, Phyllis Peters, Eva Pitts, Buena Powell, Hazel Scruggs, Edith Schockley, Ethel Thomas, Agnita Turner, Grace Watson, Pauline Weatherby, and Francis Williams.
Since 1948, Gamma Kappa’s members have continued to excel scholastically, while contributing immeasurable hours of community service. On state and national levels, through the years; Gamma Kappa Chapter and its members have received numerous accolades highlighting and honoring academic achievements; ongoing and committed leadership development and acumen; and trailblazing, innovative community service programming initiatives.
Specifically, Gamma Kappa Chapter continues to maintain the ideals of the Sorority through worthwhile, meaningful, and impactful programming which benefits Tuskegee University, the City of Tuskegee, Macon County, the State of Alabama, and the Global Community. With “greater laurels to win and greater tasks to begin”, the Chapter’s programmatic thrusts include—but are not limited to–Get Out The Vote initiatives, including voter registration drives; book, food and clothing drives; health and wellness awareness and fundraising initiatives; recycling efforts in support of environmental stewardship and “go green” living; mentoring and tutoring programs at area schools; scholarship donations and programming; leadership development opportunities; support of economic development and empowerment; and activities which promote and support the Arts. During Homecoming, 2018, Gamma Kappa Chapter celebrated 70 years of Service to All Mankind and initiated its 42 newest members (42 P.G.B.I.)
